What the Interviewer is Looking For Know What to Expect
Are You Hungry?: Are you highly motivated to
handle the long hours and the pressure
Drive: The interviewer wants to see that you have
always been a self-starter taking initiative
Goal orientation: Show that you tend to have a
master plan and your actions follow your goals
Persistence: Have you pursued previous goals with
persistence - do you have a passion to be the best
Time management: In investment banking, you will
have to juggle more than one task at a time. Show
that you are resourceful with your time
Sets high standards: Have you always been setting
high standards for yourself - investment banking is
considered to have no tolerance for imperfection
Attention to detail: Your job is all about accuracy
and reliability
The Interviewer will not be able to analyse each of
these items individually, so at the end of the day
his overall impression counts
Team skills: You appreciate teamwork, value
diversity and have demonstrated respect for fellow
team members
Leadership and management skills: You already
demonstrated leadership in e.g. managing/leading a
certain group/unit. You acted as a role model for
others to follow. You coached and trained other (more
junior) team members

Expect that the interviewer asks you to
Prove that the job in investment banking is not just
one of the jobs you consider for your career but the
job you really want. Interviewers are likely to tease
you on the following
- Are you familiar with the industry/ recent
developments?
- Are you informed about the job you want?
- Your CV
Describe situation in which you have demonstrated
drive and that you are a hard worker
Demonstrate how you solved a difficult problem in the
past
Demonstrate good time management, good
judgement, and reliability
Answer general questions the interviewer might ask
trying to understand how you tick and what are your
strengths and weaknesses
Receive questions aiming to put you under pressure
Be prepared to answer questions
Regarding certain items you have listed in your CV
such as
- Roles you had in student initiatives, sport teams/
clubs etc.

situations
